Marc’s Place

A safe house with three single rooms for street-involved or at-risk youth ages 13 to 15, not in MCFD care. Aim is to give the youth a positive, non-judgemental environment, assess their needs, and help them in making plans; this may include mediation between the youth and their families and/or securing safety plans, or assistance in finding alternate family placements. All meals are provided. A referral is required by MCFD social worker who must gain permission from the youth’s guardian; if the guardian cannot be reached, then the youth may be allowed to stay for three days under certain provisions. Pets cannot be accommodated. Facility is not wheelchair accessible. Transportation to the shelter is arranged through MCFD. Maximum stay is seven days. Serves Vancouver and Richmond. Intake via MCFD social worker is 24 hours. Funded by MCFD.

Yukon Shelter Provided by: Lookout Housing and Health Society

A 24-hour, multi-service housing centre for men and women in emergency and transitional situations. Provides meals and shelter beds for 71 people, crisis counselling, case planning, and referral/liaison for education, vocational training, and employment needs. Wheelchair accessible, and small pets are allowed. The Yukon Outreach Team provides intensive, short-term case management, planning services, and community support for shelter users who require additional intervention and support to successfully maintain themselves in the community.

The Shelter and Street Help Line – City of Vancouver

The Shelter and Street Help Line is designed to assist people who are affected by homelessness in the Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley regional districts, as well as in Greater Victoria. The Help Line understands that a wide range of circumstances can result in homelessness, and so they provide information on a variety of programs and services. The Shelter and Street Help Line calls Lower Mainland and Victoria shelters twice per day, and publishes the Shelter List, which details available shelter beds and mats for women, men, youth and families. The Shelter List is updated twice per day at around 11:30 AM, and around 7:30 PM.
